HGV Training for Drivers Based in Abingdon

Thinking about a career change into HGV driving is a big decision. The cost, the time, the not knowing where to start — it is a lot to take on alongside everything else. If you have been sitting with this idea for a while and you are wondering whether now is the right time to act on it, this page will give you a clear picture of what is involved and how we can help.

HGV training is accessible to drivers based in Abingdon through our network. When you get in touch, your dedicated coordinator will look at your situation, find the right course for your licence category, and walk you through every step from there.

HGV Training — What to Expect

The process starts with a conversation, not a form. You tell us where you are, what licence you are aiming for, and what your situation looks like. We find the right course, handle the admin, and keep you informed throughout. When training is complete, we help you into employment — that means recruitment support and a CV rewrite as part of the service.

HGV drivers typically earn between £35,000 and £50,000 a year, depending on experience, licence category, and employer. For a lot of people coming from warehouse work, hospitality, or van driving, the earning potential is one of the biggest reasons to make the move.

Courses Available Through Our Network

We coordinate training across a full range of HGV licence categories. The most common routes are Cat C (rigid vehicles) and Cat C+E (articulated vehicles, sometimes called Class 1). There is also Cat C1 for drivers who need a medium-sized vehicle licence — this covers roles like paramedic driving or operating a larger horsebox.

Other courses available through our network include Category C1+E, Horsebox Driver Training, HIAB, ADR, and Driver CPC — the periodic qualification all professional drivers are required to hold.

If you are not sure which licence category is right for your situation, speak to the team. That is what the first call is for.

Pass Protection

Pass Protection gives you one additional attempt at your practical test — either the 3A reverse exercise or the 3B driving test — along with one to two hours of additional training beforehand. It is there to give you peace of mind going into your first attempt, knowing a safety net exists if you need it. Terms and conditions apply. Speak to a member of the team for full details.

Coordination, Support, and Recruitment

What we do is coordinate the full training journey. From the moment you enquire through to the day you qualify, you have a dedicated point of contact who knows where you are in the process and what comes next. Once you are qualified, that support continues into employment — we have established relationships with employers and we will help you find the right role and present yourself well when you do.

This is not a hand-off after the course ends. The support runs through to the job.

Customer testimonials

First Time Pass

Thank you to all staff at The LGV training company. I was sent to a fantastic driving school in Hook where the instructors were fantastic and have an excellent knowledge of test routes and things to look out for. I was a bit nervous about taking my test on day 4, but in actual fact I passed first time with only 3 minors. I'd recommend The LGV training company to anyone adding additional entitlements to their licence or looking for employment within the sector.

Professional Service by Helpful & Friendly Staff

After explaining that my husband needed to take his CPC module 4 ASAP, we were very quickly contacted by a member of the booking team who offered us a cancellation for the following week. After completing the training, he passed first time. Thank you for your professional service throughout.
