HGV Training in Pontyclun
Pontyclun sits at the edge of the Rhondda Cynon Taf valley network, where the A473 connects the communities of the Valleys to the M4 and the Cardiff conurbation beyond. It is not a city, and that is part of the point. For drivers in RCT and the surrounding area who want to qualify without commuting into Cardiff or Bridgend for every session, having training accessible locally makes the process considerably more straightforward.
Drivers based in Pontyclun can access HGV training through our network.

What the licence does for you
Cat C is the rigid lorry licence — vehicles over 3.5 tonnes used across construction, retail distribution, waste management and local authority operations. Cat C+E adds the articulated combination, which opens the door to national freight, trunk routes and third-party logistics contracts. Both are recognised across the UK and held for life.
Once you are qualified, you are not limited to local work. The M4 is minutes from Pontyclun, and Cardiff, Bridgend, Newport and the wider South Wales job market are all within straightforward reach. Drivers based in the Valleys have historically had to travel for this kind of work — the licence changes that equation.
The training pathway
Before practical training can begin, you need a provisional licence for the category you are applying for. If that is not yet in place, we will walk you through exactly what is required before anything else is arranged. The sequence runs through theory test, medical, practical training and your driving test — we handle the coordination of all of it, including Driver CPC initial qualification for those taking their first licence in that category.
Timelines depend on your chosen course, your existing driving background and test availability. We give you an accurate, honest picture at the start rather than one that gets revised as you go.
Courses available
We offer Cat C, Cat C+E, Cat C1 and Cat C1+E. For drivers who want to add specialist qualifications from day one, ADR covers hazardous goods carriage and HIAB covers loader crane operation — both broaden your appeal to employers in construction, energy and environmental services. Pass Protection is available if you want an additional test attempt and extra preparation time included in your package.
Support after qualifying
We include CV support and job referral assistance as part of the training package. South Wales has a range of operators — from national retailers with distribution points near the M4 to specialist hauliers serving the Valleys and the wider region. If you want help identifying roles and presenting your new qualification effectively, that support is there from the start.
