HGV Training in Hull
Hull is defined by its port. The Humber is one of the busiest waterway freight corridors in the UK, and the logistics operations that support it — container movement, bulk cargo, ro-ro freight, cold chain distribution — create a job market for HGV drivers that is tied directly to the volume of trade moving through the estuary. This is a city where freight is not background activity. It is central to how the economy works.
Drivers based in Hull can access HGV training through our network.
What the licence gives you
Cat C covers rigid vehicles over 3.5 tonnes — used across port logistics, retail distribution, construction supply and public sector haulage. Cat C+E is the articulated combination licence, which opens access to trunk routes, international freight forwarding operations and the kind of national contracts that port-adjacent employers often require. Both qualifications are recognised across the UK and held for life.
The A63 connects Hull directly to the M62, which runs west towards Leeds, Bradford and Manchester. The Humber Bridge puts Lincolnshire and the East Midlands within reach to the south. Drivers who qualify in Hull are positioned to work locally and to access a far wider job market when they want to.
How the process works
Before practical training begins, you need a provisional licence for the category you are applying for. If that is not yet in place, we will tell you exactly what needs to happen before anything else moves forward. The sequence from there runs through theory test, medical, practical training and your driving test. We coordinate all of it, including Driver CPC initial qualification for those who need it as part of their first full licence.
Timelines depend on your course choice, your existing driving background and test availability in your area. We give you a clear, realistic picture from the outset.
What is available
We offer Cat C, Cat C+E, Cat C1 and Cat C1+E. For drivers who want to maximise their employability in a port environment, ADR certification for hazardous goods carriage is particularly valued — as is HIAB for loader crane operation. Pass Protection provides an additional test attempt and preparation time if it is needed.
After qualifying
We include CV support and job referral assistance as part of the package. Hull’s logistics base spans port operations, food processing and distribution, construction haulage and retail supply chains. If you want help identifying roles and presenting your licence to employers effectively, that support is available.
