Horsebox Training – What And Why?

While most of the people we train are looking to start driving professionally, we do get a lot of people coming to us for different reasons. That’s because we offer not only HGV license training but also a unique course in horsebox driver training. Often the people who come to us for horsebox training aren’t looking to drive professionally, but instead simply want to be able to transport their animals and make their lives easier and hobbies more enjoyable.

Why Would You Want A Horsebox License?

People who are involved with horses as a hobby or as a profession often find that they need to travel a lot with their animals. From shows to events, training sessions and meets, the horse industry is spread far and wide across the UK, with thousands travelling with their horses to visit them. Many services are available to transport your horses for you, but there are often expensive and time-consuming and could mean you end up going to fewer events as a result.

But wouldn’t it be nice if you could do this yourself? Whether you are an exasperated parent fondly remembering the days when you weren’t transporting children and tracking horses every weekend, or a busy rider who longs for the freedom that comes with the ability to move your own horses. Maybe you already own a horsebox, but you want to save money by driving it yourself, instead of paying someone else to do it for you. Or perhaps you want to be able to drive horseboxes for a living. Whatever the reasons, learning how to drive a horsebox and obtain a license to legally do so is a straightforward process, so you can relax and start enjoying having that freedom right away!

What’s Involved?

There are only 2 requirements for learning how to drive a horsebox – you must be over 18 years old and have passed your driving test. It really is that simple. The horsebox driver training course is a Category C1 driving license course that allows standard license holders to drive any horsebox with an authorised mass (MAM) or between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes. This is the license that most people driving horse boxes use to transport large or multiple horses around the country. So if you’ve only got one horse for yourself, or your children all have a horse each and compete regularly, this course is perfect for you.

Our horsebox training courses last only 4 days and give you all the information and training you need to be able to safely and legally drive a horsebox by yourself. Our expert trainers are always on hand to make sure you stay on the right side of the law, and frequently facilitate refresher courses for those who need a bit of an update. Horsebox driving is a simple yet lucrative option for those who want to earn more money by driving or a great way to save money if you own and transport your own horses.

So if you’re a member of the Equestrian community looking to branch out and start transporting your horses yourself, The LGV training company can help you on your way. Click here to register for your free brochure or get in touch with us to find out more and book on today.
