A CREWE HGV driver agency boss says he is bucking the trend of rising unemployment by appealing for extra staff.
Driver Hire, which is owned by Martin Kenyon, supplies temporary drivers to the road transport and logistics industry.
Business is booming and Martin could do with a few more hands behind the wheel.
“I’m really keen to talk to any HGV drivers interested in the variety and flexibility of agency work,” said Martin.
Driver Hire, based in Weston Road, provides temporary and permanent drivers and logistics staff to local and national organisations in both the public and private sector.
It’s one of the UK’s largest specialist supplier, with a network of more than 90 franchised offices.
If a client is short of staff – perhaps because of illness, holidays or seasonal demand – the Crewe team will quickly find a suitable replacement.
The shortage is mirrored across the UK.
A monthly report on jobs produced by KPMG and the Recruitment Employment Confederation shows that HGV drivers are a skill that is in short supply nationwide.
To raise awareness of the current opportunities with Driver Hire and, indeed, within the industry, Martin and his colleagues were in Crewe town centre recently talking to potential recruits and clients.
Martin said: “We are currently meeting the demand for quality drivers.
“But longer-term the industry as a whole must do more to make HGV driving more attractive as a career.
“In the meantime if you’ve got a clean HGV licence, why not give us a call?”
