One of the features of the CV Show this year will be the number of exhibiting companies that have transformed themselves in order to beat tough economic times.
They include St Helens-based Supertrucks, which is best known for its specialist equipment and bodies aimed at the glass and window trade. But chairman Peter Wright, who set up the company 31 years ago, says that one of its recession-beating tactics was to broaden its product range.
The chief means of doing this was producing its innovative low loading Space Van, which uses high sided bodies to give vehicles a much higher cubic capacity than normal.
This type of product means that Supertrucks is now selling to furniture and white goods suppliers and even the NHS as well as its established glass markets.
It has doubled the size of its stand to 72 sq metres as it attends the show for the third successive time. Previously it mainly marketed itself directly to its customers.
This year its show exhibit will be built around the new Euro 5 Citroen Relay back-to-back cab with its HDi 130 engine, which Supertrucks give a 20.4 cubic metre load capacity.
The CV Show will be held at Birmingham NEC from 24-26 April.
