Road building must be priority says Road Haulage Association chairman

The new ministerial team at the Department for Transport has been urged to fight for funding for Britain’s crumbling road network by Road Haulage Association chairman Richard Fry.

Addressing the RHA annual lunch Fry said: “I would urge our new roads ministers to fight our corner with the Treasury to ensure we get at least our fair share back from the huge revenue HMRC gets from us. In 2010/11 taxes from road users amounted to nearly £50bn. Of that a meagre 10% was spent on new roads.

“This revenue and spending imbalance must be addressed quickly,” he added.
